easy Scrabble Tile Coaster tutorial

About a month ago I saw this post from Mod Podge Rocks about how to make coasters from Scrabble tiles. I have a dear friend from college who is a Scrabble Queen so I asked if she would like me to make her some. She was excited so I went on a hunt for Scrabble tiles.

After visiting craft stores and multiple visits to thrift stores with no luck, I decided to branch out to the online community. I found two great sets on Etsy. I could have just ordered one, but I wanted to make sure that I had enough of each letter needed. I was able to make the coasters and have enough left over to make more coasters or make some cute tile pendant necklaces.

Supply List:
Scrabble Tiles
E6000 Multipurpose Glue or Krazy Glue for Crafts
cork pieces - you can buy it in a roll, a sheet, or coaster shapes
X-acto knife
Mod Podge
craft brush

DIY Scrabble Tile Coasters Tutorial

The first thing I did was make a list of 4 letter words I could use on the coasters.  Then I played around with arranging the tiles in different ways.  After I arranged the words how I wanted, I filled in the other spaces with random tiles.

I used the E600 glue to attach the tiles to my cork coasters. I placed the first tile in the corner of the cork.  When I added the second tile, I not only put glue on the bottom of the tile that would be placed on my piece of cork, I added glue to the side where the 2 pieces would touch.  I wanted to make sure that it was extra secure.  I did that for each new tile I placed on the cork.

When I was done adding the tiles, I used the knife to trim the extra cork so I would have a square shape. The tiles are very soft, so be extra careful not to cut part of them off with the knife. The cork kind of crumbles a bit, so just take it slow. To stop the cork from continuing to have little pieces fall off, I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge to the side of the cork where I had trimmed.

Then you end up with a cute word find coaster that are fun to look at as well as use!

    1. Josey, thanks for the question. I've found that most do crumble on the edges when cut. I use Mod Podge or finger nail polish on the edge after cutting to keep it from continuing to crumble apart. Good luck in your crafting!
