Idaho Farm at Sunset

For our family vacation last month, we went to Idaho to visit family before we continued onto our trip to Yellowstone.  They live on acreage with fields of grain growing.  It is so peaceful to visit there, where the sounds of the city are left behind, where you can see for miles in every direction, where the air is fresh and where you can see stars filling the sky.

Back to School Interview Page

Today I am sharing a free printable of project perfect for a parent wanting to keep track of their kids favorite things throughout the school year.  This would be great for teachers too to give their students on the first day of school.

My kids go back to school in 3 weeks!  I can't believe that summer went by so quickly.  Now is the time when I make lists of school supplies that I need to shop for, buy clothes for the school year, and try to get us back on some sort of schedule so when school starts we aren't all exhausted from staying up too late.

I like to save school memories for my kids, so at the beginning of the school year it is fun to have them fill out this Back to School Interview page.  You can get your own copy at the bottom of this post where I have a link to the printable.

Fun with the Family

This week I haven't posted as much because we have been spending family time together.  My husband had a few days off and we were out as a family exploring and having a great time around Utah.  A lot of the time we get in a rut and visit the same places over and over again.  This week we went new places and it was a lot of fun. All of the things we did this week were part of our Summer Fun List and the girls had a good time marking our activities off of the printable.  Just so you know, I don't share pictures of my family on the blog, so these are all pictures from what we did, just without us in them.

Kids Art Project - Painted Votive Holders

A few weeks ago I shared this post on my friend Kim's blog, The Resourceful Mama. Today I am sharing with you this thrifty and fun kids art project that my girls and I worked on.  This project costs about $1.50, depending on if you have to buy paint or not.  I love it when projects don't break the bank.

Beauty in the Morning

There are some people that love to get up in the morning.  They start their day with a smile and energy and greet the day as if it is an adventure.  My youngest daughter is that way.  Then there are those people that like to stay up later at night and when it's time for morning, well, it's not as easy and happy.  That is definitely a description of me.  Mornings are hard for me.  Some mornings though I have to get up early.  We are going on a trip and have an early start, or I volunteer to perform service early because it really is a special situation, or there is a special activity that for some reason is at the crack of dawn.  On those days, I try focus on the good things that are happening because of waking up early.  On almost every single occasion something happens that is such a wonderful experience and makes it worth it.  For this post, I am sharing some of those special times that remind me that some things are hard, but worth it.

9 Fun Foods For Kids

Fun ways to get kids to try new food

I don't know about your kids, but mine sometimes don't like to try new things.  They are more willing when the food is presented in a new way.  I was looking for some fun ideas for snacks and found these 9 ideas that I think lots of kids would like.

Framed Home Rules

Do you have home rules?  We try to teach our girls to be kind and loving to each other, and sometimes it is nice to have a visual reminder for us to be able to see on a day to day basis.  Today I wanted to share with you a simple way to customize a display of a printout of some home rules.  I love this project because it only requires 5 things.  Come see how I put this together, and don't forget to check out the printable files I have at the end of this post.

Sauteed Lemon Pepper Asparagus

My husband originally created this recipe for sauteed asparagus.  A few years ago I was working full time and I came home for dinner on Valentines Day and he had made a wonderful dinner, including this tasty sauteed asparagus.  I decided to make this for dinner a few weeks ago and it turned out very nice.

Blog Income, Stats, & Goals - Month 6

Last month I started a new monthly feature where I write about my stats for the month, the income (or loss) for the month, and my goals for the upcoming month.  I was pleasantly surprised by how many people visited, commented, and shared my post.  So here I am back again this month to update how month 6 went.  See my month 5 post here.

Hello Sunshine Package

I just love to go to the mailbox and see if I have any happy mail, don't you?  And isn't it nice when it's a total surprise?  I think getting mail is great, but sending surprise mail is even better.  This is a fun way to send someone some little items and let them know that you are thinking of them.

Happy 4th of July

I hope that you have a wonderful holiday weekend!  Enjoy the 4th and be safe!

Our 4th of July plans revolve around family time.  We will have a family BBQ, some water games because it's so stinking hot, our favorite dessert, play this Glow In The Dark Ring Toss Game , and then watch fireworks.  Our local family isn't large, but we love to get together and enjoy each others company.

What are your favorite 4th of July activities?

Interested in buying the glow in the dark ring toss game for fun evening during the summer?  You can shop here:

Top 5 Posts in June

Welcome to July!  I can't believe how fast June flew by.  This summer I have been trying to spend time with my girls while they are out of school, so I haven't been posting to my blog as much.  We have created some great memories in our day to day life as well as when we went on our family vacation.

Our biggest project we are going to work on in July is finishing my craft room and setting up our guest room.  My sister-in-law is coming for a visit for the first part of August and I would love to have everything ready for her.

At the start of the month I like to post a roundup of the most popular posts that I wrote the previous month in case you missed them when I first posted them.  Did your favorite post make the list?  I'd love to hear in the comments what post was your favorite.

Red, White, & Blue Mini Kabob

Since the 4th of July is coming up, I wanted to share with you this fun, tasty, simple treat that we make at our house.  My girls love kabobs, but the long ones are sometimes hard for them to eat off of....and I don't like the super pointy end that always seems to end up near their eyes.  I thought of this as a compromise, and let me tell you, it is a popular treat around my house!  The kids ate this whole bowl in about 2 minutes.  It's a good thing they were playing upstairs while I was putting these together and taking pictures!
